Director’s Bio
A self-taught filmmaker with roots in the music industry, Carl West made his directorial debut with The Yesmads, a self-shot documentary selected for All Shorts 2025 at the Academy Award and BAFTA-qualifying Flickerfest. With a deeply intuitive style, he’s drawn to capturing unexpected beauty and believes that everyone holds a story worth telling. Growing ever more comfortable behind the camera and in the director’s chair, he brings a poetic eye shaped by years of visual storytelling in music. Inspired by auteurs like Almodóvar, Cuarón, Noe and Dolan, he is now expanding into his debut feature length documentary and plans to take on narrative film while continuing to explore real-life human texture.
