Six years after her husband's tragic death, Amelia struggles to discipline her "out-of-control" 6-year-old son, Samuel. Samuel is plagued by dreams of a monster he believes is coming to kill them. When a disturbing, mysterious pop-up storybook called Mister Babadook appears at their house, Samuel becomes convinced this is the creature from his nightmares. As his behaviour turns increasingly erratic and violent, Amelia begins to glimpse the same sinister presence, slowly realising that the monster her son warned her about may be terrifyingly real.
